Tech note FS1431

Description
I've got a lot of requests for a document that doesn't exist on my site. Where is this bad link?

Answer
It's easy to use FlashStats to determine where the bad link is.

Generate the Bad URLs report. In the top half of the Report Request Form, be sure to put the path of the bad URL (such as /dir/file.htm) in the Page To Analyze field. By doing this, you will only see results for that one bad URL, rather than for your whole site. Also, be sure to uncheck the checkbox titled Filter referrers from specific users (located under the checkbox titled Top Referrers Report). Choose the appropriate date range, then hit the Generate Statistics button.

In the resulting page, take a look at the Bad URLs report. It should list the web pages with links to the missing document, whether they be on your site or on someone else's site on the Internet.
