Tip Sheet: Hide report tips
Use this report to see the DNS names of the top visitors to your web site.
If this report only shows one result (for "Unresolved IP Address"), then FlashStats has not been configured to perform DNS lookups. In order to have FlashStats convert each IP address to its DNS name, click the All Advanced Options... button on the Report Set Options tab, and then make sure that the Perform DNS lookups check box is selected.
Please note that if you enable DNS lookups then FlashStats will convert all IP addresses during an extra step in its analysis. This will significantly increase the time required to generate a report, but only the first time each log file is analyzed. FlashStats will then cache the DNS names so that subsequent reports will not require any extra time. (By default, DNS names are cached for 60 days.)
If you are interested in seeing the activity for a specific visitor, you can easily create a filter to show only that detail. Simply make sure that the New Report Set view is selected in FlashStats, then drag the visitor DNS name's filter icon from this report onto the FlashStats window.
You can perform a WHOIS lookup to get the registration information for any DNS name. Just click on the DNS name's "W" icon ; the lookup results will appear in a new window.
If this report has a lot of long DNS names from ISPs or other companies, see the Primary Domains and Secondary Domains reports to see the results consolidated at one or two levels of domain name.
DNS Name: The DNS name of the visitor's IP address.
IP Address: The IP address of a visitor to your web site. Please note that the IP address logged by your web server for each visitor may not be their true IP address due to Network Address Translation (NAT), firewalls, proxies, or other reasons. The IP address may represent more than one user.
Hits: The total number of hits from the given DNS name. Each hit is counted separately, including duplicate hits from the same visitor.
Visits: The total number of visits from the given DNS name.
